Context

At the 22nd Annual Community Health Symposium at Stanford University, Henna Hundal and Anil Wasif presented a poster showcasing key findings from a research project at BacharLorai. This research, which will culminate in a policy brief to be published during the UN General Assembly week in September 2024, addresses significant healthcare challenges in Bangladesh's Barishal Division, particularly within the Patuakhali District.

The study identified critical gaps in healthcare delivery, including inadequate staffing, insufficient training, and a severe shortage of resources, all compounded by the region's environmental vulnerabilities like frequent flooding and cyclones.

The research promotes SDG Target 3.8 and aligns with a recent UN resolution promoting Bangladesh’s community clinic model as a viable approach to advancing universal healthcare access globally. Henna and Anil's presentation emphasized the need for an integrated approach to healthcare that considers both environmental and social factors, ensuring that the unique needs of vulnerable populations are met effectively.

The upcoming policy brief, based on these findings, will play a crucial role in shaping national and international healthcare policies. Henna and Anil's presentation at the symposium reflects the ongoing commitment of BacharLorai and its partners to promote resilient healthcare systems in line with global health directives, while keeping local implementation in mind.
