Context
Role of South Asian Youth in Achieving the SDGs was the 36th session of the 8th International Youth Conference (IYC8), held at AFS Headquarters in New York City. This session brought together five panelists from across South Asia to discuss their experiences and perspectives on advancing sustainable development. The focus was on empowering youth, promoting inclusive education (SDG 4), and fostering regional collaboration.
Coinciding with the SDG Summit and UNGA 78, IYC8 provided a hybrid forum for young leaders, emphasizing turning discussions into actions for sustainable development. The panel addressed key topics like improving access to quality education for marginalized communities, youth participation in decision-making, and overcoming regional social, economic, and political barriers. Panelists shared successful initiatives and collaborative efforts to address common challenges in South Asia.
IYC8 was organized in partnership with the Civil Society Unit of the Department of Global Communications (DGC), Generation Next Network, UN-Habitat, and UN IOM, highlighting the vital role of youth in achieving a sustainable and equitable future.
